This project is visually led in nature. To get the ball rolling, mood boarding is a very appropriate tool and one which will allow me to begin to build a visual dialogue of sorts before I start to ideate and sketch. The structure of this project is quite new to me also. Usually, I would have to research content before considering visuals, however the content is already provided which means the majority of my decision making will be centred around visuals.
It was important to me to fully understand what is commonly associated with the Apollo missions. Based on the content to be included in the website and my own personal research, I created a mind map which was an overview of key things associated with the Apollo missions.
Doing this allowed me to be more considerate of what visual components I wanted to include in my mood boards. At this early stage, I want my search for visual inspiration to still be quite broad in order to consider all possible options. Creating this mind map helped me to deduce key words which helped me search for visual inspiration.
These initial mood boards are quite broad in nature and rather set the tone for my visual search. My first three mood boards: space suits, the surface of the moon and the darkness, helped me to consider the environment in which the historic and innovative ambitions of Apollo were realised.
<aside> ⭐ REFLECTION: Instantly I was able to identify some common visual themes throughout the imagery associated with the Apollo mission. There is a strong sense of high contrast in the images. The lighting is particularly interesting, even more so when interposed in front of the dark back drop of space. It makes these images feel incredibly bright yet incredibly dark at once. This juxtaposing nature is very intriguing and something that could lend itself very well to dynamic website visuals.
