I decided to compile some inspiration for the creation of my logo, surrounding the ‘star of life’ symbol and it’s application in design. I also included some aspects of branding I have created so far in the project.
Before beginning the creation of my logo, I was already set on using the star of life as inspiration for the logo as it is a strong feature of the word mark. By doing this, it will allow me to have a cohesive branding presence.
Logo Inspiration Board
I began sketching some possible logo designs. I wanted to focus on keeping this as simplistic as possible. Drawing inspiration from the mood board I created, I was drawn to the strong outlines on a lot of the symbols. I decided to begin exploring this style in my sketches.
Logo Design Sketches
As my sketching progressed, I experimented with a concentric-esque form with each star layered on top of each other. I really liked the look of this, it looked like a flower. I tried to lean into this more by adding a circle into the centre but decided this became too crowded. I wanted to keep this logo as simplistic as possible and I felt this composition did not need this detail. I do quite like the circle in the middle in a more illustrative sense, which is a motif I will definitely consider bringing through to the creation of vital brand assets.
I created a technical sketch of the logo. I did this by using construction lines on grid paper. I then placed tracing paper over these lines to draw the outline of the logo. I found this exercise quite useful as it allowed me to fully understand the geometry behind the logo.

To build my logo, I used a ‘star of life’ icon by Iconify Icon Library. While I could have constructed my own star of life, I preferred to use a verified and accurate icon to build this as it would mitigate the risk of inaccurate lines.

I wanted to pay attention initially to the proportions and composition of the digital outcome. I began by eye balling the design, placing one icon on top of the other. I chose #0072CB and white to give the illusion of a cut out in the middle of the design.
