Colour Blocking

To gather inspiration for the creation of my colour palette, I decided to extract the main colours from some of my favourite images I gathered in my mood boarding stages and colour block them in order to breakdown the colour profile of each image. I chose images with more of a warm toned hue as I liked the feeling of optimism in these colours, which is similar to the optimism of the Apollo 11 mission.

<aside> ⭐ REFLECTION: I found this exercise useful to get the ball rolling in terms of considering colour in this project. I am definitely a fan of the warmer tones and will continue with these through my colour planning. I quite like the outcomes where there is a blue tone, a red tone and a yellow tone. This forms quite an interesting triadic colour scheme which I would be curious to play around with more.

Type Colour Palette Creation

I wanted to extract colour in a more selective and meaningful way at this stage with prioritising the creation of a comprehensive colour palette rather than focusing on blocking in colour referencing a photograph.

Initially, I decided to carry forward image-based palette 2 into the development stage. I quite liked the triadic nature of this colour palette. I felt that it was slightly too muted to be an engaging colour palette.

I went through several iterations of this palette, bringing through other colours I had swatched previously to see what was working and what was not.

Introducing NASA Red

As a strong red tone began to emerge in my palettes, I was reminded of NASA red which I discovered in my research. I researched the correct hexadecimal code and decided to implement it into the colour palette.
