One of my goals when it came to developing the UI of this project was that I wanted a consistent set of illustrations to enhance the interface. Illustration is a skill I have been really trying to develop in this academic year. I felt that I made great progress with it last term however I wanted to push myself stylistically this year and make myself create vectorised illustrations which I feel is inherently more difficult.
I created a mood board of the general style of illustration I envisaged for this app. I wanted the style to feel quite fresh and friendly, with no risk of being overpowering or non reflective of the brand.

I began by sketching random illustrative faces and figures to get comfortable with a particular style of illustration. I also thought these could act as a bank of hair styles and expressions for when I am creating the actual illustrations.
I created base sketches for what I would like each illustration to look like. I did this quite loosely on paper, focusing mainly on composition and the position of larger images. These did get slightly more refined as I progressed as I naturally became more confident in this style through each drawing.
