Getting to Grips with InDesign

I wanted to create my e-book on InDesign to be more aligned with industry standards. I also think it is a positive thing to learn new software when I get the chance, and I feel that InDesign is one that will definitely be useful in final year.

Defining My Approach

My approach to creating the e-book started on Figma. I took the compositions I had created on Figma and removed the body text. I then exported them as PNGs, brought them into InDesign and added in my body text there. I found this to be a very effective and easy way to create the E-Book. I added fills spilling over the edge of the book in order to make sure there was no risks of white lines appearing if the images move slightly once exported, as I found this to be an issue at times.

I set the pages to double page spreads, as I felt that they were graphically the most interesting and gave the publication the same essence as my prototype. I made sure not to have any text going between pages however, as I am aware that on smaller devices a double page spread layout is not very readable.
