To ideate the features and flow of my banking app, I wanted to do this in a visual way which would allow me to explore ideas and re order ideas in order to come to a successful outcome.
I started by recalling some of my brand values that would help focus my thoughts and decipher what features would be most authentic and integral to the brand. I felt that efficient and customisable were two more specifically feature based values. I found that this method of ideation was really helpful and set me on a trajectory that feels organic to the branding.
After brainstorming some features, I built upon these by exploring user journeys and planning interactions. The user journey mapping helped me fully visualise what form these would take within the app. As this is an app that very much is a means to an end and purpose based, there needs to be strong consideration payed to how accessible it is to carry out tasks.
I thought about what functions essentially make a banking app useful. These are standard uses for a banking app which I think are important to include or at least consider. I then decided what criteria any feature on the app should meet. These were: highly demanded, easy to navigate and risk mitigated. Highly demanded very much depends on the lifestyle of the user. This could take the form of cashless banking etc. Easy to navigate is also important as even though these are potentially new features, there has to be a certain innateness to their usability in order to make them useful features rather than stumbling blocks. Risk mitigated is highly important as a bank account and their money is one of the most important things to every user disregarding a demographic.
Considering a demographic, I quickly reminded myself of some of the banking and financial habits of 16-25 year olds. These will ultimately steer the direction of the implementation of features in the app.
This was perhaps the most useful aspect of this method of planning. I started by writing down all of the features I wanted to include in my banking app. From there I placed them into the screen which they are most suited to.
