I began the planning stages of my landing page by gaining inspiration of excellent landing pages that did not seem too far removed from something I’d produce which would be in keeping with the visual personality of my brand.
I pulled these onto a page and analysed what I liked about them and anything I feel I could translate across to my own brand. I think a strong and striking hero image is something that is very effective in a landing page. I want this to be a highly visually interesting landing page. I don’t want to limit my creativity by thinking of what I would have knowledge of how to code and rather design first then re assess this later.
I want to keep text to a minimum and rather design illustrations that are indicative of the features that the brand has to offer. This landing page is ultimately to promote the app which is why I need to remember to have lots of buttons to download the app.
The next stage was brainstorming what content I wanted to include in the landing page. I started by compiling a mind map of the main features that my app has to offer. This was helpful in fully envisioning the purpose of my app.
Afterwards, I decided to brainstorm in more detail the content of my landing page. The purpose of this was to pull together all of the possible aspects of my landing page and to see what categories they grouped into so I can begin to establish a hierarchy within these.
In order to translate this content into a wire frame, it was important to establish a sense of hierarchy and prioritise what content is most important. This will be useful when it comes to placing content on a wireframe or sketch.
In the latter half of this project, I’ve found using large pages and sticky notes a very efficient and effective way to plan, especially when it comes to planning interfaces. I quite like the way you can quickly jot down ideas and re arrange them to refine ideas. I used this to plan the layout and hierarchy of my landing page. I feel like this is a great stepping stone to apply my ideas to sketches. I feel a lot more confident about the general layout of my landing page. I now feel as though I can effectively plan how this will look visually.
After these planning exercises, I feel as though I have a clear perspective of what content I want to include in the landing page, the general layout and also the places in which visuals are needed, e.g. illustrations and imagery. I am happy that I have left myself enough time to create a visually dynamic landing page in which I can fully push myself to create illustrations and other visually interesting components. I also will refer closely to the brand guidelines I have created in the creation of my landing page. I think this will be very helpful in the process, as I will be able to design confidently, knowing that I am designing something truly reflective of the brand.
