Narrative and Story Telling

Look Back

⭐️ REFLECTION

In terms of the module focus of narrative and story telling, I feel that I brushed upon these notions in my Sustainable Development Goals project. I created an essay which was very narrative focused which led me to a narrative led interface design. At the end of that project, I wrote about how I would like to develop this skill further as well as my UI / art direction skills in a future project, so I am welcoming this project as an opportunity to do just that. Art direction is something I have done in small amounts in past projects, however I haven’t ever got my teeth sunk into it in the way that I would like.

Look Forward

⭐️ GOAL SETTING

I am very excited about this project. Admittedly, I was daunted by the examples shown by Kyle as they are very high level and look industry standard. However, my inner dialogue soon told me if they can do it then so can I. I was awarded most promising GCSE Art and Design candidate in NI back in my fine art days, so there is absolutely no reason that my artistic abilities would hold me back from producing a dynamic and exciting outcome. Instead, the only thing that would inhibit me from doing this is my confidence. Therefore, in this project I am going to fully push myself very, very far out of my comfort zone. I want to push Figma to it’s absolute limits. In terms of the website outcome, I want to challenge myself to create it on Webflow. This will mean learning an entirely new programme however I am ready for the challenge of this. I want all of the visual imagery to be deeply considered and the result of rigorous reiterations and refinement. Overall, I am very excited to begin this project.

Considering the Brief

THE BRIEF

The content is supplied in 'Apollo 11'. It is up to you to decide how to use it. You may use it all or only part to tell your narrative story.

This is the page content. You can add to it or edit it if you like. In a typical design process, I'd probably make suggestions to the client around changes to the copy, feel free to do so. Or you can use this copy as is. Think of me as your client.

It's up to you how you handle the content in the website or eBook. You'll of course need to consider the words (so there will be an emphasis on typography), but you might also consider: illustrations (vector, hand drawn, photographic…); iconography; and other elements.

<aside> ⭐ REFLECTION: It will be important not to dive right into this project and beginning to sketch and wireframe. I feel that it is most important to digest the content prescribed to me. I quite like the consideration of this content as content delivered by a client. I want to fully break down this content and grasp the information at hand. This will allow me to easily springboard ideas around visual and art direction.

DELIVERABLES

  1. Build an initial immersive prototype (using XD, Figma, or similar) designed as part of a first design sprint. The deadline for this is for a critique in Week 6.
  2. Build a finished website (using HTML, CSS and JavaScript - if you wish) that iterates upon the initial immersive prototype and is designed as part of a second design sprint. The deadline for this is for a critique in Week 12. Alternatively this can be an E-Book.

Your website should be responsive and should work on mobile, tablet and desktop.
