Rhythm

When considering rhythm and line, initially the lines of a stave in music came to mind. I felt that using patterns and varying the length and weight of lines could be a good indicator of rhythm. I tried compositions resembling that of a stave in a deconstructed way. I also focused on creating sketches that focused purely on their patterned and graphic elements.

I was very happy with the fourth and fifth images. The tonal and graphic qualities that emerged from varying the line weight created an oscillating feeling very resemblant of rhythm. More static qualities emerged in the first three designs. They focused more on the patterned qualities of rhythm and the syncopation which form it can take. Line length and composition was more the focus here.

Asymmetry

Planning

In consideration of asymmetry, I drew inspiration from the asymmetry that can exist in architecture. I conceptualised different architectural forms varying in it’s rendering. Some are slightly more resemblant of structures while others are aspects of line with consideration of perspective and abstract structure.
