When gathering ideas and researching for my point outcomes, I found inspiration in perhaps an unlikely area. The bathroom of my university accommodation was growing mould at the time and the forms the mould took reminded me a lot of the point designs we were creating in uni. It looked something like this: (not my photo)
From this moment of inspiration, I decided that multiply would be an appropriate choice of my first prompt. The very nature of mould is that it grows and multiplies. Therefore it would be a very apt source of inspiration for my project.
I decided to explore this idea of multiplication of points in a five-square story board fashion. I created a quick sketch of this using three squares:
After creating the sketch I knew this would be a successful outcome. However, I needed to ensure that each square was an addition to the last one, keeping the same fixtures of points as before. It would ensure the notion of multiplication is being communicated. This is something I did not do in the sketches. Some of the points should also grow in size as mould spores tend to enlarge through time.
I think the outcome was quite successful in conveying point. I quite liked the contrast between the small and big points as it added more visual interest and grounded the designs. The contrast between the minimalism of the first story board compared to the higher density of the final story board also pertained to the inspiration of multiplication.
