Combining the UI design and the illustrative assets was a very fulfilling step in this project as it seen the concept come to life. The splash screen is a perfect example of these elements marrying together — the logo design, art nouveau illustration and the UI background all blended together nicely to become an illustrative interface which I am very proud of.

I was concerned that the limited colour palette of the illustrations would become very overpoweringly green, however I think the background counteracts this perfectly and neutralises the green effectively.
The nav-bar being illustrated as hills is very effective in my opinion. I think that it departs somewhat from the conventional app without feeling unfamiliar to the user which is something very important to keep in mind.

On the discover page, I had to carefully consider accessibility and legibility as the UI is somewhat darker than the other screens. It almost is a middle grade of darkness which is was challenging to design around. I created a reverse of the icons and the text on the nav bar as the colouring of the hills where too dark to keep the navy. I lifted the yellow from the background of the UI which made it feel very cohesive.

Again, I had to play close attention to the colour choices on the play interface as this was a predominantly dark interface. I quite like how there is variation of colour in some of the screens. While I understand that branding is important to many designers, I think that sometimes app design can feel very bland and purely functional. This app, although serving the purpose of education, is without doubt a project in which I wanted to push my illustrative abilities.
