Going into the wire-framing process, I felt I had already established a strong idea of what made successful music based interfaces through the research I had conducted. I also felt comfortable that I had a clear vision of the content I would be presenting in this app and therefore had a general idea of what the best use of my screens would be.

I felt that three categories was enough for what content I needed to present. Home is the default page and is intended to capture the users interest to encourage them to explore the app further. Discover is where the majority of browsing will take place, with specified categories and a search option. Saved is the user’s personal library of collected content from the app, a standard across all music apps and vital in my opinion.

With regards to my homepage design, I wanted to create something all-encompassing of what the app has to offer. I intend for the homepage to feature new and recommended content for the user which will be generated through their save habits. I want it to be the most dynamic of the screens, which is why I want to include many different interactions and presentations of content. My second iteration of my homepage designs were much more successful, with a visually interesting user flow which felt graphically strong.

The discover page is where all of the content the app has to offer is presented to the user. I experimented with two different iterations of this. In my opinion, the second design of the four rectangles creates much more of a hierarchy of options than the circles which would mainly prioritise the icons. This felt a lot less intuitive. I refined the design slightly on the third discover iteration. The content categories were split into the main content of what the app has to offer:

The listen page is one of the next steps in the user flow of the discover page, and the design was realised quite easily following my design of the homepage. I didn’t want to complicate this and rather wanted it to feel cohesive with the homepage. I feel that prioritising the cover art is the most engaging way to present this. The larger icon at the top of the screen is intended for a recommended or featured section.
