Laddering - Ideation Technique

I came across this technique a couple of months ago and I have been dying to try it out. It is useful as it forces you to look at the design problem from various angles to try and replicate some of the benefits you would get from designing in a team. You move up the ladder with more abstract and broad questions, and down the ladder with more concrete and specific questions. I found this extremely useful and I feel as though it has filled me with confidence that this is an idea that definitely could work and one I should feel is important.

User Journeys

To begin to construct a user experience of this product, I felt it would be useful to complete various exercises to put me in the position of someone using the product and visualising each point of contact with the product. I based these on my user personas that I created.

Story Board User Journey

This took visualising the UX of a product to another level. Through this exercise I was able to begin to form a picture in my mind of what a user experience would look like with this AV holistically. I did this for the user persona of Elizabeth if she suffered from dementia and low mobility.

<aside> ⭐ REFLECTION: I have a very strong grasp of my user now and the ways in which they will interact with the product. I have a strong idea of the use cases which ultimately will be the driver of the brand I develop. My design choices in the interface will be focused on these use cases and the conditions that the user may have. I am going into the wire framing process with confidence as I have a strong grounding of research to make informed choices that will ultimately benefit the user.

Site Mapping

I completed a sitemap to compartmentalise all of the different features I would like the UI to include in the AV. This is a great tool to use for migrating my ideas from lists to wireframes. I found this useful as it is an easy way to begin to conceptualise your user journey and manage the content for your users. I was able to group each feature into 3 categories, which I imagine will take the form of a nav bar when I begin to design the UI.
