I decided to base my poster on Article 13 of the Human Rights Declaration:

  1. Everyone has the right to freedom of movement and residence within the borders of each state.
  2. Everyone has the right to leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country.

Immediately I tried to visualise travel in linear and point forms.

I created this mood board of images that I would like to draw inspiration from. I thought the point to point connections with line represented free movement without boarder. They reminded me of space travel which led me to conceptualise incorporating a global/planetary narrative to the project.

The work of design firm ‘Daily Minimal’ captured my interest and the composition of three globes sparked an idea of creating a similar graphic, but one that suggested travel between the globes. Obviously this article does not pertain to space travel but I feel it is a good metaphor for free travel in general. NASA, being synonymous with travel, use Helvetica in their design systems. I felt this would be an appropriate font to incorporate into the poster.

I began sketching on procreate the forms of point and line I wanted to use in the design. I experimented with the type of point and the line weights and styles. Having the largest point resemble a globe and the smaller points and lines representing travel, I felt this would contribute to a successful outcome.
