Starting on Paper

User flows are an integral part of any UX design project. I feel that there is a particular emphasis on them in this project however, given the nature of healthcare and the many care pathways one can undergo. A service such as this consists of a complex network of many flows working together to deliver care to patients effectively.

I wanted to begin on paper to establish some user flows to begin that process of creating user flows to be integrated into the app. I did this for the three most integral user flows my app would carry out in my opinion: booking an appointment, checking symptoms and speaking to a professional.

I began each flow by assessing some of the aims of the flow, the risks involved and decided the first and last step of the flow. Establishing the first and last step was particularly useful as it allowed me to think of the users initial interaction and then the completion of their task — two most important steps in any user flow. I created many iterations of each flow before creating a final sketch of each.
