User testing is an essential part of any product development process. It provides valuable insights into how the users interact with the product and what their needs and preferences are. This feedback can be used to make necessary adjustments to the product, ensuring it is user-friendly and meets the needs of the users. Furthermore, user testing helps to identify any potential issues or challenges that the users may face, enabling the team to address these problems before the product is launched. It also helps to ensure that the product is not only functional, but also enjoyable and satisfying to use.
I discovered a Figma plug in called ‘attention insight’, which uses AI to create heat and contrast maps to give insights on how users would interact with your product. I thought this would be extremely useful for this project in particular, as usability is a priority of mine.
I only had a few screens I could do this for without paying a fee, so I prioritised my home screens and one of the care pathway direction screens. In regards to the home screens, I was initially scared that the background illustrations on the cards would threaten the usability of the product, but I was pleased to see that the focus is still very much on the text. ‘Chat to someone’ had the least attention, which is interesting to me as I felt it had the most negative space surrounding it. Check symptoms, emergency appointments, care information and need help were the most focused along with the word mark, all of which is positive feedback. The hamburger menu had the least focus, so I will definitely reflect what would draw more attention to it, perhaps placing text beneath it.

I was particularly pleased with the outcome of the home screen with an active appointment. Nearly the majority of the users attention shifts to ‘check in’ and ‘appointment details’, a great indication that both of these integral features will be viewed in an actual use case. Appointment details has particular focus which is great as it will allow users to navigate to their appointment with ease.
