Introducing The Brief

When initially discussing the brief, I was quite excited to begin exploring the different avenues I could explore with this project. My initial concern was that it is a very over-saturated market with almost all features ideated when it comes to general music streaming services. However, I think a more focussed approach perhaps aimed at a certain way of consuming music, or a specific genre of music could be an interesting approach.

In foundation year, we were tasked with adding a feature to a streaming service. I chose Apple Music and added an interface that allowed independent artists to publish music easily and free on Apple Music. It also contained a social aspect with commenting, liking and sharing music - similar to Soundcloud. From this experience, I feel as though I am going into this project with a good amount of experience. It will be exciting this time to determine my own design system instead of designing to such a unique and specific design system such as that of Apple Music Interfaces.

Images

We discussed the importance of imaging and the messaging it can create, wether intentionally or not. I found this quite interesting as it can completely dictate the experience and feelings of anyone consuming any form of image-based media. I think this is particularly important when building UI’s and considering marketing, branding and other aspects that would include images, as an intended and focused line of user experience is always at the forefront of any project in this industry.

Master Apprentice: Week 1

We were introduced to the history of master/apprentice and the important of intentional copying in creative development. I think this is a really interesting approach to learning and one I think will be really useful in developing my skills creating vector based images.

Reflection ⭐️

I quite enjoyed re creating these music app icons. I think doing this regularly throughout the coming weeks will be really beneficial in improving my icon creation skills. It made me appreciate the time it takes to digitalise a design that could easily be overlooked as visually it plays a small part in a UI. I struggled achieving symmetry in the first icon. I still don’t think it’s perfect, so experimenting with various grids is something I should focus on in the future. Overall I think I master-copied these icons quite well.
