I found this lecture fascinating. I often take for granted the fact that the internet is at my fingertips and it is so useable. Therefore it was highly interesting to get an overview of how it came to be. What was most interesting was viewing early web design. It was crazy the designs of early websites and how cluttered they were. I feel like designers were experimenting with all the new tools they had at their disposal and didn’t fully consider the UX of it all. I also really liked learning about the emergence of different web languages and markups such as HTML and CSS. I think it is very interesting that HTML was made available for everyone to learn free of charge. This paved the way for the world wide web to be as widely used and developed as it is today. Learning about the context of the first email was also fun. A simple need of razors led the way for instant chat that is integral to our society today. It is astonishing to compare the early web to where we are today and it is so important to remember where it started to fully appreciate the tools we have at our disposal today.
