The industrial revolution changed the face of society as we know it. There was a move away from the dominance of agriculture for the common person to make their money and people shifted their sights to urban landscapes where they could work in factories to earn money. The second revolution beginning around 1840 saw this really begin to gain traction. However, at the turn of the century in 1900, this was a key moment in history and technological advancement. As any moment in history, this caused designers and artists to react to it. In 1900, light began to emerge from synthetic sources of electricity. It is rather interesting how then the impressionists like Monet and Van Gough paid such sensibilities to natural light in their paintings. I also enjoyed refreshing my knowledge on the Art Nouveau movement.
We also looked at pocket profiles of leading women designers this week. I found the profile of Sara Soueidan to be extremely interesting and inspiring. Her highly prolific clientele list was exciting to see as I too can work with such clients on the path that I am on.
