This weeks lecture was one of a lot of learning for me. I was introduced to a lot of new designers and terminology. De Stijl was one term I learned. I find with a lot of the things I’m learning in this series of lectures, that I’m already familiar with the works but I’m just fine-tuning my knowledge on terminology, artists, history and dates. In all honesty I don’t love the work from this era but I appreciate it’s importance especially as a post-war style of art and design. I also appreciate the strong graphic elements in this era as being extremely revolutionary. Especially when we consider the fact that this was done at a time before computers existed, this work is remarkable. I really enjoyed learning more in depth about the Bauhaus. Reading the Bauhaus manifesto was really interesting and it is clear they achieved what they had set out to do. From previous lectures I was familiar with the art they produced but I found it interesting to delve a bit deeper into the reaction from society to the school and their exhibitions. Learning about the staff that taught there was also important and connecting the dots between Kandinsky and the Bauhaus made a lot of sense as I was unaware previously that he was a member of the Bauhaus.
