Ideation Techniques

UX Ideation techniques is something that I use a lot in my work. I find that they are particularly useful when I feel a bit stuck going into a project. The more out there the technique the better in my opinion. There are so many different techniques which one can use and I feel that they each are best suited to different projects.

SOME IDEATION TECHNIQUES:

Brainstorming

Gather a group of diverse individuals to generate a plethora of ideas without judgment.

Sketching

Use pen and paper to quickly sketch out different design solutions or concepts.

Storyboarding

Create a series of visual storyboards that represent the user's journey and interactions with a product.

Mind mapping

Start with a central concept and create branches of related ideas or elements around it.

Crazy 8s

Set a timer for eight minutes and rapidly sketch out eight different design ideas within that time frame.

SCAMPER

Use the SCAMPER technique (Substitute, Combine, Adapt, Modify, Put to another use, Eliminate, Reverse) to stimulate creative thinking and generate new ideas.

Card sorting

Organise ideas, features, or elements on physical or digital cards to identify patterns and potential solutions.

Design studio

Collaborate with a cross-functional team to generate ideas individually, then present and discuss them collectively.
